Our shared future

PacificAus Sports is part of the Pacific Step-up, Australia’s commitment to elevate our partnership with our Pacific family to new heights. The Step-up builds on over half a century of sustained engagement, responding to the region's priorities by working together to strengthen our shared sovereignty, stability, security and prosperity.

Through programs such as PacificAus Sports, we’re deepening our connections with our Pacific family, and working with Pacific island countries and other stakeholders to develop regional capabilities. The program is managed by the Office of the Pacific in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which supports whole-of-government coordination of the Step-up. The Office works closely with Pacific island partners to ensure that local strengths and local priorities remain central to the work we do together.
